A Little Fishy

2024
Experimental Installation / Reading Interaction Design

Team Project by Nan Shen, Hongyu Chen, KOPOSOVA ELIZAVETA, SOUN SIV Y

A little fishy is an immersive installation inspired by the Hezhe people’s fish-skin crafting tradition.
It features four wearable pieces—for the head, face, arms, and waist—made with paper and fabric materials that imitate fish-skin textures, together forming a space where reading and wearing happen simultaneously.

Each piece is designed to match the body’s natural height, posture, and sightline, allowing participants to read and move intuitively.
Some parts include flipable “fish scales”, inviting the audience to experience the act of scale removal, a key step in the traditional craft.

Blending contemporary design with cultural heritage, A little fishy offers a playful, hands-on way to explore the Hezhe people’s unique artistry.
