Youth Cinema Ecology: Insights from the FIRST Youth Film Festival is an interactive data visualization project created with Tableau. Using the shortlisted works from China’s largest youth film festival, FIRST, over the past five years as the data sample, the project explores four thematic chapters: Home through Young Directors’ Eyes, Young Directors’ Return Journeys, Professional Challenges of Young Directors, and Women in Young Directors’ Films. Through artistic visuals and interactive experiences, it presents the collective characteristics and aesthetic preferences of contemporary Chinese young directors, as well as the ecosystem and future prospects of China’s youth cinema industry.
